  6. The Elite
  7. The Siren
  8. The Crown

A Thousand Heartbeats

A thousand heartbeats by kirra cass fantasy romance princess

My favorite book, A Thousand Heartbeats can be categorized as an enemies-to-lovers, fantasy romance. The main character, Annika, is the princess of a fantasy kingdom. She is being forced into a political marriage against her will. Lennox comes from a very different background. He doesn’t have much and is part of a rebel group trying to take over the kingdom. These two have nothing in common but end up together through fate. It does start somewhat slow but has a great ending.

The Selection Series

The selection series dystopian fantasy romance

Kirra Cass’s first books, The Selection Series has five books, but I feel you could break it up into a trilogy and a duology. The series is set in a dystopian future. Where the United States used to be located, is now the kingdom of Illea. This kingdom is divided into Castes. The first three books (The Selection, The Elite, and The One) are about America. Yes, the main character’s name is America. America is in love with Aspen, who is in a lower caste than her and is completely prepared to live a harder life to be with him. Prince Maxton is holding a competition between girls in Illia to become his wife, known as the selection. America is pressured into joining. She finds out that Maxton isn’t as bad as she though. Who will she choose?

I personally don’t like last two books (The Heir and The Crown) as much as the original three books. They are about America’s daughter and her selection. I just feel they don’t have as good of a storyline as the first ones and the main character is a little bit annoying.

The Betrothed Duology

The Betrothed by Kirra Cass Fantasy Young Adult Romance

The first books I read was The Betrothed and The Betrayed. This duology follows the story of Hollis Brite. She has been noticed by King Jameson of Coroa. He wants to marry her and make her his queen. It would be a perfect fairytale, except for the fact that Hollis is in love with someone else. Silas is a commoner from Coroa’s rival kingdom, Isolte. She runs away from the castle to marry Silas when her life is then again turned upside down. Silas is murdered on their wedding night. Who did it and why?

The Siren

The Siren by Kirra Cass Book Young Abult Mermaids

The last book, The Siren is a low fantasy forbidden romance. The main character, Kahlen, is a siren. She is bound to the oceans and her job is to sink ships. She has always been dutifully and didn’t ask questions until she met Akinli. He is a human. Can they be together, or will Kahlen’s magic voice be the death of them both?

Reading Order

While all the books are good, I would start with The Betrothed and The Betrayed because I feel that they best encompass the style that Kiera Cass writes in. If you like lower fantasy I would then read the siren. If you liked the idea of the competition between the girls in the beginning for who would marry the king, I would then read the Selection. And, if you want to read the best book ever, read A Thousand Heartbeats.
